VEHICLE PURSUITS

Sheriff Reigenborn changed the Sheriff’s Office No Pursuit Policy to allow for pursuits if they could be conducted safely for our community and deputies. Sheriff Reigenborn believes, based on factual and historical crime statistics, that stolen vehicle are used for secondary crimes IE: assaults, hit and runs, thefts and trespasses, burglaries to businesses and residences, drive-by shootings, and homicides.

It has been proven that when law enforcement refuses to engage with a vehicle failing to stop, crime increases in those areas. However, when these people are pursued, caught, and held accountable, we see a decrease in crime.
